The National Olympic Committee has held a gathering last Tuesday at Al Khawaneej Majlis about sports ethics and Olympic values. The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, with the participation of representatives of sports and public authorities across the UAE.
Attendees included Qais Al Dhalei, President of the Asian and Arab Rugby Federation, and Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee.
Engineer Azza bint Sulaiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs, NOC, opened the event by stressing the importance of reviewing the lofty values of the principles of the Olympic movement and fostering the principles of cooperation, fraternity and peace among all community members. She called for taking advantage of the coincidence of the event with the holy month of Ramadan to emphasize these meanings in the land of a country characterised by goodness and development.
Abdullah Mousa from the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai highlighted the key practices that shed light on the noble principles and values that match sports ethics. He called for focusing on the bright experiences and attitudes which will leave positive impacts on the hearts of athletes and figuring out how to make these practices part of the lofty attitudes in various walks of life.
He stressed the importance of respecting the rights and humanity of others as well as the laws of the sport. He called for avoiding inflicting harm to competitors and showing the spirit of sportsmanship while performing matches, which will translate the values and ethics into practical conduct that would enhance the image of sports and make it an ideal environment for fair competition.
